The Tribe is one of the best kid's TV shows of all time. This set includes all 52 half-hour episodes from the first season. It tells the story of a world where all the adults have been killed off by a deadly virus and only children and teenagers remain. The streets are dangerous as many of the teenagers form into vicious and violent gangs or 'tribes' who fight to obtain food, water and supplies.
The programme focuses on a group of kids who come together by accident to form a different kind of tribe, one where they help each other. The 'Mallrats' include some very different personalities, from the fiesty and moral Amber to the sweet motherly Salene, the airheaded Zandra and the sexist but gorgeous Lex. Despite lots of arguments they soon become a strong Tribe, but they have a lot to deal with as they suffer from attacks and kidnappings by other tribes, food shortages, and the return of the virus.
The acting is pretty good for a kid's programme, the characters are realistic and likeable, the storylines are really exciting and the make-up and costumes are brilliant! The Tribe is pretty addictive viewing - watch one episode and you'll probably watch the next 5 too.
This set also contains special features - a Making Of featurette, character profiles, half an hour of outtakes, and a Tribe on Tour featurette with a commentary by Lex (Caleb Ross).
A couple of words of warning = NOT ALL THE STORYLINES ARE SUITABLE FOR YOUNG KIDS. The programme deals with teenage pregnancy, attempted suicide, eating disorders, sex, and death, although it does it all in a responsible and non-explicit manner. I would say it's main target audience is from about 10/11 to 21.
Secondly, be aware that the special features reveal essential plot details of the second and third seasons - all the outtakes, in fact, are from these seasons with none from the first season.
All in all this is a brilliant show and great value, and will make any young person want to be in a tribe!
I personally love The Tribe. I started watching it by accident when I was usrfing one day and it's one of my favourite shows now. A virus has wiped out all adults, so the world is in anarchy and the kids have to form tribes to survive.
The Tribe centres on one city and the life of the tribes there, mostly on one tribe called The Mallrats. The Mallrats are the 'good' tribe, and are mostly in conflict with the other tribes, there's a lot of tension and angst. You have to be harsh to survive.
I particularly like the visual aspect of The Tribe, especially the amazing costumes and make up, and also the gritty surroundings of the city. I seriously reccommend buying this DVD.
